Showing Great Concern for Public Welfare, Emperor Group Joins CAPPD to Offer Caring and Support

On the afternoon of 21st December 2018, Emperor Group and China Association of Persons with Physical Disability (CAPPD) successfully co-organized “A Cool Fish” movie-screening event at Emperor Cinemas atat Emperor Group Centre. Leaders from CAPPD, volunteers from Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB), Party Committee and local residents of Yong’an Li on Jianwai Street inBeijing, were invited to attend the event. A thought-provoking speech was given by Mr. Wang Jianjun, President of CAPPD, followed by the award ceremony. Ms.Yu Xiaonan, Chief Assistant to the Chairman of Emperor Group and General Manager of Strategic Development and Investment was presented withreceived an award  by CAPPA on behalf of Emperor Group. Afterwards, participants with disablilty has not only received New Year gifts from student volunteers of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, but also shared their inspiring experience. The event tooks all participants on the big screen for an enjoyment towards the end of event.

The event was held to express the support of Dr. Albert Yeung, Chairman of Emperor Group, for his care for the disabled as well as his support on social welfare. The event also symbolized the beginning of the collaboration between Emperor Group and CAPPD in the field of charity. The two sides will jointly undertake social responsibility activities in response to the call of President Xi Jinping. The  Group will join hands with CAPPD  to encourage the disabled group’s active participation in society, as well as to improve their living conditions and build a harmonious society together.

A Cool Fish, the movie produced by Emperor Motion Pictures, is inspired by the ordinary people in reality. The heroine, played by Ren Suxi, is a paraplegic who suffers spinal cord injury and cannot take care of herself. The pain and inner struggles she experiences as a disabled touch the audiences to the core. Despite her despondency, she hopes for a better life. Ren Suxi and the other main actors use humor to evocatively express the unexpected joy and sorrow, as well as the bliss and perseverance that they experience in daily lives. Love and hope can indeed co-exist with hardship in life.

Since its release, the movie has received rave reviews, and it has been a major success at the box office garnering nearly RMB800 million, emerging as a “dark horse” among China’s comedy movies released this year. Thanks to the strong characterization in the movie and the hard work of the entire movie team, a lot of focus has also been placed on the physical and mental health of the disabled from all walks of life. Prior to commencing the shooting, the movie team arranged the cast to gain an in-depth understanding of the living habits of the disabled. The thought-provoking performance opened a window for the audience to learn more and care about people with disabilities. This movie not only has strong artistic and entertainment value, but also helped raising public welfare interest. 


Rao Xiaozhi, Director of A Cool Fish, produced by Emperor Motion Pictures, a dark horse in the domestic movie industry, joined the event and shared the experience of shooting the movie with everyone present 


Director Rao Xiaozhi and Ms. Tang Zhanxin, Chairman of Noval Inception Foundation interacted with each other. The scene was warm and moving, giving off positive energy.


Emperor Group ceaselessly pursues charity and public welfare

CAPPD and Emperor Group used this opportunity to initiate in-depth cooperation in the field of public welfare and charity. Emperor Group’s charitable endeavors date back to as early as the 1970s. Under the guidance and leadership of Dr. Albert Yeung, Emperor Group continues to uphold the spirit of doing good and is devoted to charity. It actively shoulders social responsibility, delivers positive energy and repays society. The Group has set up two charity foundations, one of which is the Emperor Group Charity Fund. This fund supports various charitable initiatives such as disaster relief, and helping the elderly and the poor. It also actively promotes the development of education, sports, environmental protection and cultural activities, and provides direct financial support for a number of third-party charitable projects. The other foundation is Albert Yeung Sau Shing Charity Foundation. It focuses on promoting the development of palliative care and has funded the construction of geriatric service centres. There are now nine geriatric service centres that are run under the name of the Albert Yeung Sau Shing Foundation. It has also established the “Albert Yeung Sau Shing Charity Foundation Baoding Child Care Centre” in Hebei.  

Since their establishment, the two charity foundations have funded numerous public welfare projects in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and even overseas. The two foundations support Emperor Group staff to be involved in charity, pay attention to public welfare, learn about environmental protection and help disadvantaged groups in need, helping put corporate social responsibility into practice. As Dr. Albert Yeung, Chairman of the Emperor Group, said in an interview with China Philanthropy Times, “We support all employees from Emperor Group to firmly walk together on the road towards charity! Emperor Group has always pursued charity.”

Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business shoulders the social responsibility mission

Every year, students of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business prepare the Fan Deng Yearbook and gifts for people suffering from a spinal cord injury, hoping to express their love towards the disabled. Dressed in light blue jackets, the students of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business also volunteered during the event and worked hard to organize the activity, reflecting the high sense of social responsibility that the school has developed in them.
